Buying pug insurance can seem overwhelming at times due to the large number of choices out there.  But if you put some effort into it you can understand what is available and buy the best insurance for your pug.

Pugs are prone to a number of health problems so buying pug insurance can be a worthwhile investment.  Just some of the health problems pugs can get include: eye problems, skin problems, vertebrae problems, obesity related problems, and respiratory problems.

Pugs seem to be one breed of dog that is prone to many health problems due to the structure of the head.

So when you go to buy pug health insurance there are a number of things you need to consider.  First is the age.  Most insurance companies will only insure dogs when the are less than 6 or 7 years old.  If you try and buy pug insurance and your dog is 9 years old, you will likely be denied coverage.

Another thing to be aware of is waiting periods.  Insurance companies have waiting periods which can last several months, to prevent owners from try to get existing conditions covered.

It is important that you do not claim any illnesses on your pug during the waiting period, otherwise that could be labeled as a pre-existing condition and it may not be covered for up to one year.

Aloe when buying pug insurance make sure you know that many pet insurance companies have clauses where breed specific conditions are not covered. 

For example, skin fold dermatitis, entropion, and back problems could possibly be labeled as a breed specific condition in pugs and there not be covered by insurance.

Pet insurance can be  confusing because different companies offer different plans and therefore it can be hard to compare them. 

Don't buy a plan until you understand all aspects of the plan.  It is the insurance companies responsibility to make sure you understand the policy so if you don't, then ask them.

One last thing before you buy pet insurance.  Did you know that Consumer Reports says that pet insurance is not worth buying and that you rarely get your money's worth!
